Kashmiri fighters aided by Hindu, Sikh, Muslim officers attacked Pathankot air base: UJC

Kashmiri fighters aided by Hindu, Sikh, Muslim officers attacked Pathankot air base: UJC
The United Jehad Council (UJC), which claimed the Pathankot air base attack, has said that all the attackers were residents of Jammu and Kashmir and that local Hindu, Sikh and Muslim officers facilitated the assault.
The attack on the airbase was in line with the ‘code of conduct’ of Kashmiri fighters, Dawn.com reported.
“We have not hit any civilian but a military installation. Indian troops are killing us and wherever we find any of them we will hit and kill him,” said Shaikh Jameelur Rehman, secretary general of the United Jihad Council (UJC).
“All attackers are local Kashmiris, based in India-held Jammu and Kashmir. And they have been facilitated by local Hindu, Sikh and Muslim officers."
He rejected reports that the attack had been carried out by Jaish-i-Mohammad, a banned militant outfit blamed for the 2001 attack on Indian parliament.
“It’s just a false impression. In fact the attackers are a squad of mujahideen drawn from different member outfits in our alliance,” said Rehman.
He said that since the attackers were stationed in areas along the national highway in India, they were referred to as `National Highway Squad’.

Mufti Asghar Kashmiri, in-charge of Jaish-i-Mohammad in Jammu and Kashmir, told the newspaper: “Those who have carried it (attack) out have also claimed the responsibility for that…That’s all.”

The promotions, including eight from the army medical corps, were approved at a meeting of army’s promotion board, Radio Pakistan reported.
Earlier on September 23, the board approved promotion of four major generals to the rank of lieutenant generals as part of a major reshuffle ahead of the retirement of key military commanders.

ISPR statement points at government's 'incompetence': Shafqat Mahmood

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Shafqat Mahmood on Wednesday told the National Assembly that the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement issued a day earlier pointed at the government's incompetence.
During a Corps Commanders Conference in Rawalpindi on Tuesday held to review the country's internal security situation, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif had stressed the need for "complementary governance" for progress in the fight against terrorism.
Mahmood said the ISPR statement was a matter of concern for the federal government and it would have to perform. He also asked the government to brief the House on progress being made on the National Action Plan.
PTI leader Arif Alvi said he supported the ISPR statement, adding that military and civilian courts should operate in a complementary manner otherwise it would have negative implications on the fight against insurgency.
Earlier during the day, Leader of the Opposition Syed Khursheed Shah pointed out the lack of quorum in the House and said, "The session can proceed once the princes are present."
Shah said there is only one minister present in the assembly, and the government, during its two-and-a-half years-long tenure, had not learnt to take parliament seriously.
Referring to yesterday's Corps Commanders' conference, the Opposition Leader also took a shot at the government, saying it should improve it's governance.
Shah said the government should take the hint and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should rectify the cabinet.
Addressing the National Assembly, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party leader Mahmood Jan Achakzai said that the ISPR statement regarding the conference was against the spirit of the Constitution, saying that any foreign policy made outside the parliament would not be supported by the House.
Achakzai also asked for the ministers to be more punctual during NA sessions.
Referring to the Prime Minister and the Army chief, he said that "If both Sharifs are on the same page, we will support them unconditionally, but if there is are any differences between them then we will support the civilian Sharif."
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq during house proceedings earlier today suspended the session for 10 minutes to protest the absence of senior ministers of the federal government.
During the 10-minute break, the Speaker also expelled junior officers of federal ministries from the assembly and called the secretaries of the Interior Ministry and Ministry of Finance.
Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday, instead of supervising proceedings of the House that had elected him just a day earlier, chose instead to call on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, leaving the lower house of parliament in the hands of the deputy speaker.
